“**Insecta**” ([[languages:classical-airumali|Classical Âirumâli]]: //vałâmfir//) is a collective term for tauric beings whose lower halves are insectile in form. Subgroups of insectae include:

  * Hymenopterans (bees, wasps, hornets), especially genus //Megarhyssa//
  * Cicadas
  * Lepidopterans (butterflies, moths)
  * Ants
  * Mantises (who are noted for their psionic abilities, and a direct connection between their wings and their brains, making the former incredibly sensitive but also allowing them to act as psionic antennae/amplifiers)
  * Dragon- and damselflies
  * Grasshoppers and katydids

All have naturally occurring gynomorphs (or are monogendered), and are known for being well-endowed & having [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hair-pencil|coremata]] regardless of congruency with lower-half species, as well as retaining extensible sets of insectile mouthparts.

//Megarhyssa//-taurs were one of several peoples to independently invent writing, using their ovipositors as pens or styli of a sort.
